![]() This year, the Black Law Students Association was able to provide three deserving members with a public service diversity fellowship. The fellowship was created to lessen the burden students may feel when they chose to accept a public service summer position that is not financed by the employer. Each recipient showed an interest in public practice and a need for financial assistance. Although BLSA received a number of qualified applications, each recipient demonstrated exceptional writing skills and the ability to represent both UVA and the Black Law Students Association well. The recipients are as follows. Sean Suber is a rising 2L at the University of Virginia School of Law and will spend the summer working at the United States Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia. Mr. Suber will work to enforce criminal laws and increase the quality of life of Washington D.C. residents. Amanda Oakes is a rising 2L at the University of Virginia School of Law and has accepted a judicial internship with the United States District Court Judge John Gibney. Ms. Oakes will perform the tasks and duties synonymous with a full time clerk. Finally, Ese Okuma is a rising 3L at the University of Virginia School of Law and will perform both legal research and writing tasks in the Office of Civil Rights for the Department of Education.
