Cairncross & Hempelmann is committed to a culture of diversity that reflects the many communities in which we belong and practice. We strive to enable and encourage everyone in our firm to draw upon their unique experiences and backgrounds to help us thrive and deliver excellence to our clients.

In an effort to further support and increase the diversity represented in our firm, as well as the legal community as a whole, we are offering a $7,500 fellowship in conjunction with a summer associate position to one second year law student. This fellowship will be paid directly to the student’s law school at the beginning of their third year to help defray tuition costs.

Selection Criteria

Students are encouraged to apply who will be in their second year of law school during the 2012-13 school year, are in good standing at any ABA accredited law school and will contribute to the diversity of our firm. We are looking for law students who can dedicate themselves to a 10-12 week summer associate position with the firm and are ultimately committed to practicing law in Seattle for the long term. High academic achievement is important, and membership on law review or Moot Court Honor Board is definitely a plus. We are also interested in participation and dedication to community- and diversity-related activities.

Application Checklist

To apply for the Summer 2013 Diversity Fellowship, please submit the following materials no later than September 7, 2012:

• Application (Go to the Career Services site, click on "Upcoming" and log into Lawweb)
• Personal statement (1-2 pages) describing achievements and eligibility for program
• Resume
• Current law school transcript
• Legal writing sample
• List of three or more references (professional and/or academic)
