SUMMER LEGAL INTERN EXPERIENCE AT NRDC
NRDC’s summer legal interns write briefs, draft complaints, prepare legal analyses, obtain affidavits, investigate corporate and government malfeasance, participate in policy advocacy campaigns, and draft white papers and comments for submission to Congressional committees and administrative agencies. NRDC hires passionate students who possess the intelligence, skill, self- confidence, and maturity to take on enormous responsibility. Our interns receive an active role on the frontlines of the environmental movement. Over the course of a summer, an NRDC intern will typically work on a variety of projects and amass experience that he/she could not obtain anywhere else.
HOW TO APPLY: All applications for 2013 Summer Legal Internships can now be submitted on-line at www.nrdc.org/jobs. You will need to electronically submit a cover letter, transcript, resume, references, and a legal writing sample that does not reflect edits by anyone other than you. In your cover letter, please indicate all of the NRDC offices to which you are applying, as well as any order of preference among the offices. Internships are available in the following offices: New York, NY; Washington, D.C.; San Francisco, CA; Santa Monica, CA; and Chicago, IL.

At Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, we recognize that a commitment to diversity is not just a passive ideal, but an active goal. Through our Diversity Scholarship we have committed to the funding of scholarships each year to promote the education of well-qualified law students who reflect the diversity of the legal marketplace and who are traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession.
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings will award two scholarships to two deserving students. A $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student in his or her second year of law school, and a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student in his or her first year of law school. These scholarships will be available to law students attending ABA accredited law schools in the United States. The scholarships will be paid directly to the students or to their law schools.
In connection with receiving the scholarship, recipients will be required to clerk in one of BABC’s seven offices for at least six weeks of the summer after the scholarship is awarded. BABC will do its best to honor the scholarship recipient’s first choice for office placement but maintains the right to make the final decision.
The deadline for applying for the scholarships is September 15, 2012 for second-year law students.

I would like to share with you some information about the U.S. Department of Justice’s Summer Law Internship Program (SLIP) and the Attorney General’s Honors Program (HP). A primary purpose of this email is to make you and your members aware of these programs and the applicable deadlines, which are early.
The Attorney General’s Honors Program (HP) is Justice's recruitment program for entry-level attorneys. It is the only way Justice hires graduating law students. Judicial law clerks, full-time graduate law program (LLM) students, and law school graduates in qualifying full-time legal fellowships are also eligible. The first opportunity for law students to apply for HP is the summer before their third year of law school. This year, the on-line centralized electronic application opens July 31, 2012, and closes September 4, 2012. Participating Justice offices and components will be listed at: http://www.justice.gov/careers/legal/entry-participants.html.
The Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP) is Justice's competitive recruitment program for compensatedsummer internships. Law students who have completed at least one full semester of law school by the application deadline are eligible to apply; however, the majority of SLIPs are second-year law students who work at Justice the summer between their second and third years of law school. But the SLIP is also open to recent graduates between graduation and the start of a judicial clerkship or full-time qualifying legal fellowship. Thus, current 1Ls (i.e., rising 2Ls) who are interested in a paid internship for Summer 2013 should apply by September 4, 2012. We are once again pleased to announce the acceptance of applications for the firm's annual Latham & Watkins Diversity Scholars Program, which awards six law students at ABA-accredited law schools a $10,000 non-renewable scholarship for use during their second year of law school. Previous recipients of the scholarships have told us that the program not only defrays the cost of a law school education, but also signals the importance of diversity to the firm and is a strong indicator ofLatham's open-minded and forward-thinking culture.
Started in 2005, the Diversity Scholars Program is designed to increase the number of diverse attorneys who want to pursue careers in global law firms and intend to practice law in the United States. The quality and quantity of applicants over the past six years have been overwhelming, and the success of the program reaffirms and strengthens our commitment to innovative initiatives that support and sustain greater diversity in the legal profession. The Diversity Scholars Program is among a range of ongoing activities that enhance the firm's efforts to recruit and hire diverse summer clerks and attorneys.
Factors considered in choosing the Diversity Scholars include motivation for pursuing a legal career, academic and leadership achievements, life experiences and challenges, and desire to practice at a global law firm and contribute to its diversity objectives.
