We encourage all diverse 1L students at The University of Virginia School of Law who would like to practice in D.C., Dallas or Houston law firms after graduation and who plan to spend their upcoming summer in the D.C., Dallas or Houston area to apply. In an effort to recruit and nurture legal talent at an early stage, we have established a paid summer intern program for a first-year law student with a diverse background. Our first-year summer intern program coincides with our
second-year summer associate program and lasts for ten weeks. During the ten weeks, the student will perform substantive legal work, learn more about the law and our practice areas, receive constructive performance feedback, and will be mentored by members of our professional staff. We believe that this early training and guidance is invaluable to both incoming legal professionals and our firm. We have had great success with the recruitment and hiring of candidates with diverse backgrounds for our first-year summer intern and second-year summer associate programs, and most receive offers to join the firm.
Please note that our definition of a diverse background is broad, so any students who feel that they qualify for this position are encouraged to apply. In past years, we have focused our recruitment efforts on first-year law students interested in our Food and Drug and/or Environmental practice groups, and we plan to do the same this year. Blank Rome is seeking 1L (and 2E) minority law students to apply for Blank Rome’s Diversity Scholarship Program. The selected Blank Rome Scholar will be employed as a salaried Washington, D.C. Summer Associate in our highly regarded Summer Associate Program and will, in addition, receive a renewable $7,500 scholarship toward his or her second year at law school.
In addition, a Scholar who is offered and accepts a position to rejoin the Firm for a second summer will receive an additional $7,500 toward his or her third year of law school. The Scholar will also benefit from the active and committed mentorship of Blank Rome partners and associates throughout the program.
All current first year day and second year evening diverse students at UVA will be eligible to apply to the Blank Rome Diversity Scholarship Program. The application process will include submission of a resume, a short essay and a transcript of first semester grades with respect to 1L students (first year and first semester second year transcript for 2E students). Applications will be due towards the end of February and the Scholar will be selected sometime in March.

As part of the American Health Lawyers Association's initiative to cultivate diversity among attorneys practicing health law, the organization provides opportunities for talented law students of diverse backgrounds so that they can learn more about this segment of the legal profession. To this end, AHLA sponsors a Diversity Internship each summer. The program provides a rising 3L law student an eight week internship at AHLA's office in Washington, DC where he/she performs various writing and research duties to support the Association’s publications and its Public Interest activities. The scholarship provides financial support to law students who have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing a career in IP law and enhancing diversity in the legal profession.
The scholarship award of $15,000 may be applied to costs associated with normal tuition and fees (such as, but not limited to, student activity fees; law school or university fees, and administrative fees), and a paid 2013 summer associate position in one of our five domestic offices (Atlanta, Boston, Palo Alto, Reston or Washington).
Students currently completing their first year full-time (or second year part-time) are invited to apply. The award will be applied to education costs the following academic year, and may be renewed for one additional year if the scholar accepts an associate offer upon successful completion of the Finnegan summer associate program, maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or better in law school, and is otherwise in good standing.

Arent Fox LLP is seeking applicants for its 8th Annual Diversity Scholarship Program. Arent Fox will provide a scholarship award in the amount of $15,000 to three first-year law students. Applications will be accepted
from December 1, 2012 through 11:59 p.m. on January 22, 2013. The scholarship award includes a position in Arent Fox's 2013 summer associate program.
A scholarship will be awarded to one first-year law student in each of Arent Fox's offices: Washington, New York and Los Angeles. Candidates may only apply to one office.
